ELECTION 2001 Duties and Qualifications of a Representative Manner of Election By
Legislative Districts, to be apportioned among the provinces, cities, and
the Metropolitan Manila area in accordance with the number of their
respective inhabitants on the basis of a uniform and progressive ratio and
to comprise, as far as practicable, contiguous, compact, and adjacent
territory. Each city with a population of at least two hundred fifty
thousand, or each province, shall have at least one representative. Elected
representatives may serve for a maximum of three consecutive terms. At least twenty-five years of age on election day. Able to read and write. For the legislative district representative, a registered voter in the legislative district in which he shall be elected. For the legislative district representative, a resident in the legislative district in which he shall be elected for a period of at least one year before election day. For the party-list representative, a bona fide member of the registered national, regional or sectoral party/organization he seeks to represent for at least ninety (90) days preceding election day.
Propose legislation of both national and local application. Propose investigations/public hearings/public consultations "in aid of legislation." Attend plenary and committee meetings when the Congress is in session. Upon assumption of office, make a full disclosure of financial and business interests in accordance with R.A. No. 6713 and other related laws. Notify the Senate of a potential conflict of interest that may arise from the filing of a proposed legislation which they sponsor/introduce. Cannot hold any other office or employment in the Government, or any subdivision, agency, or instrumentality thereof, including government-owned and/or controlled corporations or their subsidiaries, during his term of office without forfeiting his Senate seat.
